Hi guys I'm slightly curious as to why it says top 3 chords being E B G when on the guitar facing downwards its E A D and only makes sense to me that these are the top 3 chords?

The strings are ordered according to pitch: highest to lowest. 1 is the highest pitched E, 6 is the lowest pitched E.
It is counter-intuitive because spatially the lowest in pitch is the closest to the ceiling (the highest spatially), then the strings go higher in pitch as they approach (go down toward) the floor!
This order & naming is simply the historical industry standard & is how string manufacturers refer to the strings.
Hope that helps!
