Ibanez

What do you people rekon about Ibanez guitars?
are they a good brand? worth the price?

i just bought an ibanez 7-string and it completely rocks - the best guitar i had so far and its also among the best guitars i´ve tested so far (apart from the parker fly maybe)

but i suggest not to get the cheapest of all ibanez guitars. i got myself the RG7420. i love it!

but its the same as with every other guitar - you can buy a cheap model that absolutely rocks and you can buy an expensive one that sucks. Just recently i compared a cheap squier to an EXTREMELY expensive strat. the squer was way better - there are always those monday-guitars - even in the most expensive series.

yeah ive been looking at an Ibanez GRX 40
any suggestions on that one if you know of it?

Don't know about the quality of the recent cheapo models. They used to be a great bang for the buck... I still recommend looking to a japanese made models. A used RG500
series guitar is really a good one. I've had three Ibanezes
myself. My first one was a cheap EX-series guitar made in Korea. Great bang for the buck... Recent GRX- series can be
compared to those. My second one was a pre-Satriani model 540R Pro which was an awesome axe. I have a RG770DX at the moment and it's a killer too, very much comparable to the 540R. All of them were late 80's or early 90's axes so I can't give you any better facts about the newer ones. From what I've heard is that their quality has lowered a little??? I played a new RG550 a little while ago and that one felt pretty nice though...

i got an RG421, it's got a terrifically powerful sound and the sweetest black colour. Ibanezes are a great buy, i've talked to people who have them and i've never heard a complaint. people complain about gibson and epiphone and squier and fender and almost every guitar company but never a harsh word against Ibanez. i can see why too, the guitars are just great.

I got myself an RG 570 special edition second hand and it's a good guitar and looks beautifu too. I really like the locking trem 24 fret jobs. On the other hand Ibanez put these massive chunky frets onto their guitars and I really don't like that nor know why they do that. My flatmates Fender Strat. has thinner frets and feels extremely easy to play compared to mine. That said I love my guitar so much I'm getting a splitable humbucking EMG pickup on the bridge and having an on/off switch stuck onto it.

I have the GRX40Z (NB). It's pretty nice - the finish chips somewhat easily, so be careful with it... I was looking for an inexpensive starter guitar, but I shied away from the squiers - a number of people said they tend to have problems a few years down the road; and yes, I do expect to still use my "beginner" guitar then - I'll upgrade at some point and use the GRX40 as a practice guitar.

You should definitely get an amp with reverb when looking at inexpensive amps... I got the cheapest Ibanez amp, and am thinking about getting one with reverb (though probably not right away - need more lessons first ;))

I've owned several Ibanez electrics and loved them all. Though I have always installed a Seymour Duncan Invader at the bridges of them which made them the most brutal and fat sounding I've ever played. I never understood all the hype about some guitars like the Les Paul, I'll never forget the time I was at a music store and tried this $3,500 Les Paul plugged in to a JCM 900 and the salesman was standing there with a grin on his face saying that's the ultimate rig. I then proceeded to tell him that it sounded like dog $hit to me. I then tried out the (I believe $400) RG440 Ibanez plugged into the same amp and it blew me away! Other than the fact that his commision dropped considerably, he still couldn't hear what I heard which was a dominating fat tone and much better playability. BTW I have tried many Les Pauls since then and still think they sound like crap compared to an Ibanez with a SD invader.

I personally dont like Ibanez that much...the rg series is good for nu metal and so on. But the lower range rg`s are quite bad, i wouldn`t get a rg270. Some of the more expensive Ibanez guitars rock. Check them out and see what you like, but dont buy a guitar for the name on the headstock. there are some really killer cheap guitars out there.

I think Ibanez has that kind of quality-bang-for-the-buck thing going for it that got me into Yamaha SBG guitars back in the 80's.

I firmly believe that peeps who are willing to fork out huge sums of money because of the name on the headstock fully deserve what they get. :p

And I firmly believe that those of us who choose our axes with our eyes closed, and our ears and mind open, fully desreve what we get... Like killer guitars for prices that leave room in the budget for little extras like amps, 'n effects, 'n the occaisional pint! :D
