After finishing GF 1 & 2 (x 3 instructors), Rock 1 and half of Blues 1, I took a break from doing tutorials to learn some blues licks and got pretty hooked on doing that. Improvising to backing tracks and attempting to construct some melodies is great frustrating fun. In fact it's a lot more fun than learning fundamentals via the tutorials. I'm definitely inspired... but has that inspiration led me to veer off the "correct" course?
Can inspiration be misdirected?

There is no correct course; there is only the journey we each make.
The main thing to consider is: are you getting enjoyment with a sense of making progress? If your answer is"yes", then your journey doesn't sound like it's lead you away from anything resembling "the path to Nirvana"
I wish this forum had a "block user" feature. Possibly I'm not the only one......

Whatever makes you pick the guitar up I reckon. Inspired is always a good thing...well nearly always...
