Google generally says they're whichever type of acoustic string suits you sir.

As it's an acoustic with a sound pick up.

Can you not find which strings are fitted by the manufacturer then go one set lighter

Alternatively as you might only have to put up with your choice for up to 3 month try a set of 11 acoustic and make your future judgements starting from your new strings. [br]Dave

If you are new to playing guitar and have access to a store that has a guitar tech, you may want to have a change from a heavier to a lighter guage done by a professional.

Why?

When you go from a heavier guage to a lighter guage (or vice versa), it is a different tension on the neck. This means that the truss rod that acts as a 'tension balance' within the neck wood is not correct for the heavieness or lightness of the string guage. The result is that if you go from a heaver string to a lighter string, the truss rod tension is not getting that same heavy guage counter-pull and the neck with want to 'bend back'. Visually you won't see it but when you play, eventually you'll get string buzzing etc.

A good guitar tech will change you to that lighter string set and set the truss rod for you so that you will have optimal playing ability.

As for going to a lighter string, I see no reason not to. I've been playing for decades and do not like the heavier strings. Lots of acoustic guitars start with '13s' and that's just too heavy for me. So I go lighter.
