Hi ive been playin guitar for almost a year now and ive progressed decently. I was just wondering if anyone that has played for awhile has any tips or exercises that could help from switching from chords to lead lines..im talking any type of chords..i just find it difficult to jump quickly from playing a little lead line to a chord or power chord..anyone have any advice?

When you're getting messy with something , play it over and over till it becomes natural to you.

If you're problem is switching between rhythm & lead , try playing songs as if you're in a one guitar band type ... Switch from rhythm to solo , back to rhythm and be careful not to loose your timing.

Best thing I found for this was either a 12 bar blues in A or E and switch every 12 bars between lead and rythm.

Then what to do is cut it down to 8 bars of each, then four bars.

It's pretty easy that way as if you know what scales to play over it, you'll never run out of ideas and you can start switching pretty quickly between both.

Another good song is I don't know, Ozzy and Randy Rhoads.

This switches very quickly at times between a "chugging" A riff and some pretty snappy lead playing, it's a good way to learn how to quickly switch between solo and rythm.
