I'm 44, been playing 24 years, my musical taste may have changed over the years, but my appreciation for different styles and types of music seems to keep growing, and every day the guitar still seems to say something new, 24 years ago I thought if I could just play a few Neil Young songs I'd be satisfied, Now I'd be satisfied if my Son would just learn a few Neil Young songs....................

Physically I'm 32, mentally I'm about 16. I've been playing for 22yrs., I have both my BA and Ma in music, done a lot of differnt stuff from touring colleges to teaching High School. I'm into and play an array of different styles: Jazz, Rock (mainly classic rock and jam band stuff), blues, country, classical, and my new tangent: Flamenco. Right now Paco de Lucia is king on my stereo.

Been playing since I was about ten. Am now 18. And I'd just like to say it is real hard to find musicians in my age bracket who play Rock/Rock n Roll and blues. I also discovered that the great SRV died on the same date of my birthday, 27th August. Anyone into Phish? Been listening to them recently and they are pretty good.
Cheers lads and lasses!

I turn 21 on the 26:th of march, been playing since I was 11 or something, can't really remember. I seriously took up playing about 4-5 years ago and since then I've learned TONS of stuff. In my opinion you can never be completed as a guitarist, I would say that I know about 5-10% of which is worth knowing in the world of THE GUITAR! Well, all I can say is that my life would be nothing without my guitar =)

Im 16.
Been playing for 2 and 1/2 to 3 years, I started around 13. I'd rate myself as alright. I've messed with piano, clarinet, bass and drums but guitar is the only one I've actually stuck with, probably cause its one of the loudest and you can get weird sounds and play fast on it.:)
And God said, 'Let there be rock!'

You look at this thread and realise it's no wonder this place is as addictive as it is.Long live CERN(the place where the WWW was born,d'oohh!!).
I'm 23.Turning 24 on Feb 11.And I'll have started exams,which will take two weeks,the day before.So I can't drink on my birthday(but it's all good.I'll be broke anyway).
I learnt my first three chords(GCD)when I was 12 or 13.But I'd say I started playing seriously in March 2000,when I bought my first(and so far only)guitar.I feel I ought to be a lot better than I am right now(and seeing kids here who are 16 and have been playing for 16.5 years doesn't help the feeling),althogh I can play quite a few of the songs I like, and was able to figure out the chords for Three Doors Down's "Be Like That" all by myself by listening to the song(they're GDEmD,btw).
But I'll get there.
You see on TV the friends and former neighbours, classmates, etc of presidents and musicians and stuff talking about how those people were when they were coming up.Now we have the web,and someday people will look here to see how I was when I was coming up.

I've always loved singing but I hated playing a recorder when I was made to age 11 at school cause its a cheap on to buy for the whole class. I was totally crap. At school I was crap at music and gave it up before GCSE (aged 15 I think). At 16 I took up guitar digging rock music as I did.
I'm now 24 and like sweep picking and stuff but wished my aural imagination (which used to be ok) and ear-play were better.
If I ever have kids there are 3 instruments I'd want them to try: piano 'cause independent parts can be played so easily. Violin cause it's such an expressive instrument. And Electric guitar which is not as good for chords/independence as piano and possibly not as expressive as violin (no reason to rule out use of FX on violin too you know and violin doesn't have frets) and for me is the greatest instrument ever.

If I couldn't laugh at myself how could I laugh at someone less ridiculous?

who told you it's not a crack habit?
crack makes you high.So does music.
I don't know for sure, but I suspect that if tests were conducted(or maybe they already been conducted),they'd reveal the same or similar chemical goings on in your body when you play(or listen, and actually get moved)and when you do crack.

I bought my first guitar in 1968. I stopped playin' for pay back in '71. Since then, I've been amusing myself, annoying the neighbors, and jammin' when I can. I turned 50 last October.

I'm 30 and started playing at 13.

Heh guys...been awhile. I've been gone awhile from the net because my good computer took a crap and I still have yet to fix it up. Till then I'll be using my dinosaur to surf the web.

.....still playing guitar with my band. Been messing with the free version of Pro Tools and like it so far. I spose it will take me awhile to figure it out.
I started learning guitar because of Randy Rhoads..but Yngwie J. Malmsteen is my biggest influence.

I got my first acoustic guitar at 14, but I didn't play it at all because I couldn't make it sound good. When I turned 15 I got an cheap electric/amp combo, but I was hooked. I just turned 18 and I've been playing ever since (3 years)

well..well

I started to mess with chords etc..when i was 14.
Back then i had an acoustic guitar.I do play basic metallica songs. But i wasnt serious
into guitar. I just got an electric guitar just 10 mths ago. From that day onwards i got seriously into it..playing solos..and still practising scales, alternate picking till now etc, i do feel the imprvement over the 10 mths but at a slow rate .Because i have no time to practice..and even if i do..i got less time averagely i played 2-4hrs/day. And i think that i am still rookies aroound here compare to u guys..hehe ur all are great ..started at an early age..of 10-12 thats kewl..music is my culture..but parents down here doesnt appreaciate ur talent in music a lot..parents are less encouraging.
