I am 32 years old and first picked up the guitar at 9. Played in my first hairband at 16 playing Poison, Van Halen, Tesla, Guns n Roses, and anything else that was new. Hell I think I was the only person in my high school who could pull off playing "Yankee Rose" I actually got suspended from my high school for a week after my band played at the school talent show. For some reason they thought simulating mastubation with the guitar in the general vicinity of the only female teacher was lewd and just plain wrong... Cool thing was my dad came up with a vhs tape of Yankee Rose and tried to get them to let me back in stating..."Hey it's no worse than you see on TV". Thanks DAD!
Ever since then I played in numerous cover bands, and one or two all original bands, that never went anywhere further than the local liquor store for some beer.
I was on stage in 1993 and I had just finish the 2nd set for the night, with 2 to go when the sound guy started up the "filler music". He played this song from Beck called "loser".... I heard this guy singing about stuff that didn't make the least bit of sense and playing a guitar that obviously hadn't been tuned since it was new, and I realized that this guy had a "record contract" and was "making records". I also found out that it was like a top ten "hit" that night just before we were supposed to go back on. Now this probably wouldn't mean much to me if I was playing covers at the time, but I was in the "liquour store" original band and was working my a** off at the time.
I never finished the last 2 sets... I packed up my stuff and vowed not to play in another band until Rock started to "smarten up"...
Now I just play for pure enjoyment...
I have heard some interesting stuff lately that's giving me a ray of hope that Rock is coming full circle.
That new band "Evenescence" is awesome...
"Bowling for Soup" is very intersting with witty lyrics...
There are others also, even some of the "Nu Metal" stuff gets me banging my head on the way to work every once in a while.
Who knows. Maybe rock has gotten smarter, and it's time to get back out there and kick some a**...

So. If you throw a cat out of a car window, is it considered "kitty litter"?
