Probably a moot point now that you found and purchased the M-36, but for what it's worth I think you made the right choice. Based on a ton of hype and positive reviews I purchased a Martin 000-15M StreetMaster (14 fret) a few years ago and was not impressed. It's a freakishly lightweight guitar that not surprisingly doesn't project well, especially in comparison to Martin 28 series. The worn vintage satin finish does look pretty cool though. Nevertheless, I eventually sold it.
