...and it helps! My beautiful classic guitar is just too wide at the nut and too long in scale for my old hand to comfortably span, and my Yamaha FG 800 acoustic is too narrow at the nut for me to keep from tripping all over myself...and I don't like steel strings! (I know- grumpy old man.) What I did (probably well-known to every one else) was to install ball-end nylon strings, put a capo on fret #2, and re-tune to EADGBE. Sounds almost great, and the "nut" is now a mid-width 45mm, the scale a short 23", the sound very good and the student quite happy! (Not a whole lot better a guitarist though, but I'm working on it!)
