Hi everyone,

I'm Gina and I'm picking up my guitar again for perhaps the twentieth time.[br][br]

My mum bought me a classical guitar with a cracked heel when I was about 10yrs old which my dad glued shut - the top E had a tinny sound - but it worked! I started guitar lessons with it at primary school and I loved it. But when I changed schools the next year, guitar lessons weren't free anymore and I couldn't continue lessons. [br][br]

Over the years I'd come back every so often to the music from my primary school lessons - I was stuck going over those. I also managed to snap (accidentally!) the guitar neck and dad had to get his glue out again - but the guitar wasn't quite the same and eventually couldn't stay in tune.

One year my sister took pity on me and got me an acoustic guitar for my birthday. I thought this was my time; the Internet was around now and I would use YouTube and become an accomplished player (life goal is to play Eric Clapton's Layla).... but I found I couldn't get far. [br][br]

I tend to get stuck on strumming patterns and the limits of my little finger (cannot get the F chord right). I've tried again and again on YouTube and keep losing my way. [br][br]

I'm now working my way through from the start of Fundamentals and love Lisa (she reminds me of my old music teacher). Fingers crossed Guitartricks will help me get through those stumbling blocks.

And fingers crossed the twentieth time's the charm![br][br]

Welcome! You can do it!

That's great you're working through the fundamentals. I agree, Lisa is fantastic. I'm almost finished with Fundamentals 2 and will be moving on to Acoustics 1 or Blues 1. Well, I already dabbled in a lot of Acoustic 1. I started playing last July and found my way here after getting lost on YouTube for awhile...chasing my tail it seemed! The building blocks that are taught here are awesome....you'll be playing Layla before you know it. Good luck and have fun. Also, the forums are great for questions! Lots of helpful folks here.

That methodical guidance matters, doesn't it? You realize that buyilding blocks to learn are important. I was really self taught and became pretty darned good but totally lacked the knowledge to support my ability to play. It's how I ended up here a good number of years ago. Guitar Tricks (or the internet) weren't around when I started.

It sounds like for you, that building block deal works!

Great luck and keep at it!

GT has been a big help for me. I started with Lisa's fundamentals and though I already knew some basics, the structured approach was very helpful. Also of note, I have a damage/disabled fretting hand index finger and it is a problem for me as it doesn't have much range of motion nor does it straighten perfectly. I reached out to Lisa and she messaged me back with suggestions and encouragement that has stuck with me.

Good luck Gina1

Welcome to GT and the Forum.

London's my favorite city and the UK is home to my favorite peoples.

Guitar only looks easy because those you are watching already know how. Stick to it with patience and practice...it'll come.

Good luck, have fun.

Thanks Jason. Yes the structured approach is really helping although I can get impatient I can see the effects already. Taking it steady. It's really good to hear the help is there from Lisa and guitartricks. [br]Wishing you continued success with the guitar ! [br]Gina
