hi all

ive started doing the spider fingers training running from 1st to 3rd fret from 6th string to 1 and back. ive noticed when i get back to string 6 my fingers are touching the 5 th string slightly. now should i be worrying about bad position at this point or just consentrate on getting my fingers to reach and move in a fluid way and correct later.

thanks

el

In fact usually it is a good thing to have strings you are not playing slightly muted like this so they won't make undesired or unintentional sound.

This is exacly right. Just worry about getting your fingers moving for now. Later as you refine your playing more over time you might find a situation in which it is desireable to keep your fingers clear of a higher string. For example, you might find a musical situation in which it is required to have the string above ringing out.

But for now you are doing fine. Hope this helps!

I am having difficulty witht the thumb on my left hand when I do this exercise. As I try to curl my left fingers over the neck so I get the right downward position on the strings, my thumb goes into a strange cramped position and I cannot keep the pressure on the neck. Any advice?
