Ive just bought a Standard Fender (Mexican) Strat, when I lower the action to what I consider a reasonably fast height I find the strings arent clearing all the frets!
Can anyone tell me (in millimeters) roughly what 12th fret action I can expect from an instrument of this quality?

May be you need some Truss Rod adjustment...
There ain't no strict rules for adjusting the action in a specific mm hight... You just need to adjust it to match your playability without fret buzz... Don't forget to check out the intonation.

Just remembered about this on fenders website

http://www.mrgearhead.com/

there is a .pdf about setting up axes which says:

Quote from fender:

"measure distance between bottom of strings and top of the 17th fret. Adjust bridge saddles or if your saddles are preset, the bridge height adjustment screws, to
approximately 4/64". Experiment with the height until the
desired sound and feel is achieved."

Motorhead, when you have your strings lowered the way you want them, capo or fret the guitar at the first fret and then measure from the top of the 12th fret to the bottom of both E strings and tell us what kind of measurements you come up with, and also where ( what fret) are you having the string clearance problem, it's helpful to know where you are at with all this and what you are expecting........
