I don't know what it is called. But I saw him do it on a video. It's a classical guitar move. Looks like something a harp player would use. Spread out your first three fingers, and curl them a little bit. Then rotate your wrist down. As the first finger goes from high e to b the next finger should just be starting. He brings up the neck of his guitar when he does this, so the fret board is more vertical, this helps for this part and the outro. It's not a really easy song. Great fun tho, doing it for my Highschool talent show. No one but me wants to do the solos! I don't know if this will help, but good luck!

Oh and by the way how many guitar players are you using? and how are you doing the druming and such? 2 drummers? the singer with those shaker things?

cos my i have to be watching the back of my band mates cos they can't do anything if u dont push them to do it
i know all the solos in the song but that was my doubt
i just need little details in the song to have the whole song

It's not very wierd, it's just a little bit fast...

It's better played with finger style , but you can also try sweeping with a pick.

You should learn it first very slow and very precise (take care of the pull-offs, lots of people I've seen ignore it but it suck), then increase your speed gradualy (I can even play it faster ).
Practice a lot, so that you don't get sloppy when you're playing in a gig.

I'm pretty sure it's called a "rake."

Well, I don't think so cuz "rake" is something else.

Don't know how to call it... but it's not a stand alone technique.
It's a normal riff, repeated few times with a reasonable speed.
And it starts slowly gradualy increasing speed, this is called "accellerando" ... a common name in classical music.

It should be played by finger style, using 3 fingers (thumb , index & middle)... I'm sure that any experienced Flamenco or Classical guitar player can easily play it... I remember that I finished the whole song while I was still a beginner with classical guitar.

After going into elec guitar, I was interested about playing this song with a pick... You can do that riff using Sweep Picking technique... That would take a couple of days of practicing (If you're familiar with sweeping).

Ive always played it the way you descried, but its possible to play with 3 fingers instead.

I think thats what a roll is, Ill ask my guitar teacher about that.

Its an arpeggoated roll, which is a standard roll but the strings are actually plucked instead of just brushed with the nail.

Oops...

I guess I mixed things up , I thought he means the solo at the very beginneing before the song starts, but that's not Joe Walsh... I just checked their pix , and I apologize for my misunderstanding.

Anyway, yes this one is a Rasgueado technique... It's a basic technique in flamenco & gipsy music.

This technique is both ascending & descending ... In this solo it's descending.
You start from the high e-string , and sweep it down till the low E-string... and you do this starting with the little finger followed by ring, middle & index.
