Dear Sir / Mam,

I am currently going through Guitar Fundamentals 2 course and there are scales for each notes both major and minor. My question is : Is it necessary to learn all the open style scales for each notes or I can just remember the notes on each fret and on each strings. Will learning the concept behind the scales should be sufficient? Though Grid style are easy to learn and remember or do I have to learn the open style scales as well. Please advise. Many Thanks !!!!

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking.

The scales are the notes on specific frets & strings. Some scales have a combination of open & fretted notes. But since there are only 6 possible open string notes it's going to be beneficial to learn how to play all the scales in GF2 using both open & fretted notes.

The grid style is applicable to any and all scales. It's just that some of the grid notes happen to land on open strings in some cases. The best plan is to learn to understand and play exactly what is taught in GF 2.

It's a lot of work, but taking shortcuts isn't going to be beneficial in the long run. Hope that helps!
