Just started working on the F chord and am having a lot of trouble with the tone of this chord mainly because I have a very hard time fretting both the 1st and 2nd string with the first finger.

Any tips or suggestions for me to try to help me with this chord.

Thanks!

Time, patience and practice, really. Pretty much everyone struggles with the F chord and it takes most all of us awhile to get it. I'm partway through Acoustic 1 and I still can't play a clean open F most of the time.

Definitely don't get stuck on it. Work on it for awhile and then move on while you continue to practice it. You'll get it eventually.

Lisa provides a workaround in one of her lessons

but you still have to continue the practice of making the F chord as a barre.

Much harder on acoustic, both to hold down and stretch to the other frets.

Others have suggested moving the shape further up the neck until you can do it comfortably

Then you slowly work your way back to the first fret as you improve

When I start my practice sessions, the F chord is the first thing I work on. I find that I have better success with it earlier rather then later in my sessions.
