My name is Al, I live just outside Boston.

I started playing when I was 20 years old, played pretty regularly for about ten years, and was self-taught. Good enough for Doc Watson, right?

Sort of like the guy who represents himself in court instead of getting a lawyer. He has a fool for a client.

What I didn't realize is that he was sitting on a porch with a bunch of good old boys and getting a lot of help. And I developed a bunch of bad habits, and never progressed beyond a certain point.

I'm 75 now, and figure it's about time to learn to play this thing. I have two decent guitars, and am enjoying the process of having a system to use to learn. What I knew well, of course, won't be wasted, but I'm able to correct what I'm doing wrong. Really enjoying the course!

Welcome, Al! This is a good place with lots of support and resources -- your virtual back porch guys, if you will...

Never too late! And yeah, with the possible exception of Robert Johnson's deal with the devil at the crossroads, no one does it alone (and come to think of it, neither did Johnson even if he did make that deal...)

"I got this guitar and I learned how to make it talk."
