Muting unwated strings when playing

I was playing Ode to Joy Parts 1 & 2 from the guitar fundamentals 1 chapter 3.

When I play the melody, there are notes, especially open string that keeps ringing even when I don't play them. This causes a lot of unwanted noise. According to the sheet they only last a crotchet and should not keep ringing after the crotchet.

In one of the previous lesson Lisa said that we use fingers to mute the strings when not needed but she didn't teach us how to do it for this song. In addition, this song has a lot of open strings so there are a lot of unwanted noise and it would be very hard to mute them.

Can anyone kindly advise me on what I can do? Lisa didn't talk about muting strings for this song and listening to so many strings ringing at the same time is annoying.
