Hi,

I am just starting out and noticed that when I do finger stretching exercises or fretting exercises it is a lot easier for me to first put down my ring finger then the middle finger and the index finger last. It is much easier to stretch them this way. When I put them down the other way around (first index,...) I can hardly do 1 finger per fret.

I was wondering if this is the same for you. My fingers are not very stretchy. I cant do the Spock hand gesture for example. And is there a downside to put them down in this order? Of course for stretching exercises i put them down in the correct order.

Greetings :)

Hi mpichler.dev,

That is an interesting method for sure. If you're able to place your fingers down from ring > middle > index, and you're able to achieve 1 finger per fret that way, it should work the other way around as well.

It sounds like the problem is not your inability to stretch your fingers for each fret, but more of a muscle mechanics thing. I suggest practicing spider legs so you get a good feel for moving your fingers forward and backward, from index > middle > ring and then reversing it.
