I lived in Texas in the 80s when SRV was really rocketing to fame. I was lucky enough to see him a bunch of times in about a three year period. Seemed like everywhere I went, Stevie was playing. Spring Break at South Padre, several venues in Houston which have probably all fallen down or been torn down now, saw him in Austin a couple of times and Dallas once. The intensity was off the charts every time I saw him. My favorite memory from his performances was when his big brother Jimmie (no slouch) came out and played with him for a few songs. At one point Stevie was sitting on a chair with Jimmie behind him reaching over playing Stevie's guitar. They traded back and forth, and you know they had to have done that kind of thing goofing off when they were growing up.

It takes as long as it takes unless you quit - then it takes forever and you will never get there.
