Hi Everyone!

I am 37 and literally brand new to learning guitar. After watching Video 1, I now know that I purchased an acoustic steel cord guitar! Previously when someone asked me what kind of guitar I purchased, I said 'blue' which gives you an indication of my knowledge level! I'm still currently trialling Guitar Tricks but still haven't pulled the trigger on the membership yet as I have a couple of questions...

1) Is this the right place to learn guitar if I want to (eventually, in the future) be able play the type of songs like Asturias https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEfFbuT3I6A or Malguena https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3jWsoQ8W8g - I couldn't see this type of music listed in the 'music types' when I signed up?

2) Can I use Guitar Tricks alone or should I use another app like Yousician as well?

3) So I can manage my expectations, how long do you think it will it take me to get as good as those videos if I practice for 30 mins daily?

Any advice would be appreciated, thank you.

Hey & welcome!

We have some classical guitar tutorials. Have a look at my instructor directory & scroll down until you get to the classical guitar sections. I start at beginner level with technique basics & simple songs, then gradually add more complex skills & pieces.

As you can see I teach a version of Malaguena, but not Asturias.

I'm not familiar with Yousician. But I do know that classical guitar is a very specialized genre. You can definitely learn the basics of guitar here at GT! And my tutorials can help you get started on classical style guitar playing & pieces. But if you are serious about classical then a private instructor is the best long term approach.

It takes every individual a different amount of time to learn to play music on the guitar. Every person brings their own unique set of raw physical dexterity to the task.

I've taught hundreds of guitar students in person & thousands on GT. In my experience I've seen it take anywhere between 6 months & 3 years for an adult beginner student to get from square one to playing songs. The more time you devote to serious practice, the quicker your progress.

Hope that helps!
