Is sweet child o mine intro a mode? or do modes have to be sounded with chord backings?
Peiople say the intro is the D major scale but the sequence comprises or more G's and A's!!

The intro is D mixo in the Key of Gmaj ( D E F# G A B C D )

The sequence of the intro's chord progression is ( Dmaj / Cmaj / Gmaj / Dmaj )

Take care that the whole song is not mixolydian.

The second (pentatonic) solo is played on an Emin (Aeolian mode) progression (Emin/Gmaj/Amin/Cmaj/Dmaj/Gmaj/Emin) which is in Gmaj Key (G A B C D E F# G) .

And the first solo (the one exaclty before the pentatonic) is E harmonic minor scale (E F# G A B C D# E).
The progression is (Emin/Cmaj/Bmaj/Amin/Emin).
