Are there any differences between soft and hard picks , which one is recommended for beginners as I have developed the habit if playing with a hard one

Hi

there are differences in picks from tone to control. Myself, I like a light nylon on acoustic and a thick hard pick on electric. I think it comes down to personal taste. I keep a few in my pocket.

I think a softer pick may be easier for you if you are just learning as they are more forgiving.

This year the diet is definitely gonna stick!

Up strumming will be harder if you use a harder pick. So I recommend having a very thin pick when you learn to do the up strumming (during the last chapter of the first course).

The harder pick will be easy for picking individual string like when you play melodies.

Ideally you should have one of each to try out. I think after you learn how a good strumming sound like, you can learn to use a harder pick to strumming by turning your wrist.
