Hi there!

I'm an old learner and I've finally decided that I want to get serious about learning. I've had a guitar for a few years now, but never really learned to play.

It's difficult to find a teacher and when you do, it's expensive. So I turned to Rocksmith, but aside from a few chords and a lot of fun, I haven't progressed much.

Now that Covid forced us all into remote teaching, why not just start with Guitar Tricks?!

So here I am. 34 year old from Portugal with a Squire Strat and finally the will to learn. :)

Hi there back!

I wouldn't exactly call you an older learner compared to some of us on the site but good luck with it all and I wish you all the best in your future journey!

Have fun,

theMolster

Thaaaanks. :D Well... How old is old?! Maybe this is up for debate.

I come from a sports/military piloting background, where somewhere between 18 and 25 it's the peak and after 30 you should start thinking about your retirement.

Of course this doesn't mean people over 25 are "old" literally, but in a learning context I think so. I've learnt many things between 20 and 30, like french or dancing, I still play tennis and it was common to see people 10y younger progress much faster then people my age. It's natural to have other priorities and worries to steal focus away, thus making it harder/slower.

Hi Rui, welcome! I am 20 years older than you, and there are some folks here that are 20 years older than me, just starting out. I think it is true that we may learn certain skills a little faster or easier when we are younger, but the thing to remember is that it isn't a competition and there is no timetable or deadline here. So, be sure to take your time and to enjoy the experience. Practice consistently and let yourself develop at whatever pace it takes. I keep reminding myself that this is a learning journey that I am committed to for years, not just a few months. [br][br]

So, enjoy the journey,

Dave...

It takes as long as it takes unless you quit - then it takes forever and you will never get there.

For sure :) That's the avantage of being an older learner... We're not trying to get anywere, like playing school gigs or impress the ladys I have my guitar for years, only now I'm taking it serious, so I have time.

Thanks guys!
