My friend gave me a set of strings. I watched the tutorials and started with high E. It snapped.

Not sure what I did wrong?

More strings are on the way...ordered them 4/30, they shipped today 5/7...

It wouldn't be such a big deal if things were normal and shops were open.

And tips or suggestions for trying again?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks...

Willow

Have you tried calling any shops in your town? The shop where I'm at are doing orders over the phone, and pick up by appointments. It's a hassle, but I hope your able to find a new set of strings.

I would have no idea why your high E string snapped. I do know that the thinner the string, the less tension it needs compared to your low E. Could have snapped from too much tension.

Thanks for replying!

I ordered strings from Juststrings.com

They arrive today!

I ordered 3 sets to have some on hand. I will make attempt #2 at some point today.

After reviewing the tutorials of course!

Can't wait to get started!

Thank you for the suggestion! I will call and find out! It's only a 45 minute drive and honestly a reason to drive anywhere right now would be awesome.

Thanks again,

Hi,

I'm a noob but did my first restringing on an electric a few weeks ago, it went quite well.

Are your's nilon or steel strings? Where did it snap? Is it possible that it got kinked when locking to the bridge?

Snapping from too much tension feels weird, because from what I saw, after installing the string, the tension was much lower than what's needed for the correct tunning and it was already locked in place.

While locking, I was lifting the string a bit from the fretboard so that the "bend" at the bridge becomes softer. Don't know if it makes sense, but at the time I was afraid to kink the string and snap it.

Keep rocking!

The bass ones should be thicker to get the lower takes note of, this implies they are made with a center wire and afterward an external wire folded over this. The external wire is either produced using 80/20 Bronze or Phosphor Bronze. These are designated "wound" strings. For help picking another set, see our String Guide.

The trebles are produced using a solitary strand of nickel plated steel and is alluded to as "plain".

The windings of the injury bass ones get gunked up with dead skin cells, oil from your fingers, residue and bunches of other yucky things (you may likewise find that your fingers smell interesting after you have played) as you play. This implies they not, at this point sound as splendid and fresh as they don't vibrate equitably.

YOUR G, OR third, is additionally the most inclined to breaking (on an acoustic) as it has a small center and if this breaks, it is simply one more sign that they need evolving.

Keep in mind, when you change them, change every one of the 6 simultaneously so you get an even tone for more information see https://mrreviewexpert.com/computer-and-electronics/best-electric-traveler-guitar/.

Underneath you will discover a bit by bit direct on the most proficient method to transform them on your acoustic guitar. Essentially follow this guide and in the blink of an eye you will have restrung your guitar.
