Finally decided to pick up the guitar. My entire life I wanted to learn how to play the guitar. So far the Lisa M videos have been perfect. So motivated and impressed with the video thus far. Hopefully an old dog can learn a new trick!! (42yrs old)

Cheers everyone!

John Paul

Welcome, John Paul! You are far from an old dog here. A lot of us here are quite a few years older than you. We all share that "always wanted to learn to play the guitar" dream. Good luck with your learning journey.

Dave...

Haha, fair enough Dave. Appreciate the words of encouragement.

Yeah, from what I've seen in this intro forum, you are below the average age here. I'm actually a bit curious why the demographic here is what it is. Is learning guitar more popular with the older generations? Does this particular program (GT) appeal more to older people? Are younger people inclined to use a different mode of learning? Or perhaps the older people are just more inclined to stop in here and say hello?

Anyway, welcome and good luck!

Makes you wonder if GT had Tom Selleck or Alex Trebeck do an infomercial, doesn't it?

I'm curious about the demographics, too. It does indeed feel like the most active posters in the forum are 50+, but that might not correlate to the overall membership. I am trying to remember if there was a question about age range when I signed up. I don't think there was.

Maybe the older we get the more structure we KNOW we need, and we're willing to pay for it unlike younger players... it is an interesting question though.

Like most folks, I have always wanted to play an instrument but nevrr got off my butt and started.

I finally joined a couple of weeks ago to try and start learning at age 50.

Working through Lisa's lessons and, even this esrlynon, I can see progress and have a sense of achievement.

Hopefully, that will continue as I progress to the hard lessons😊

That statement is spot on in my case. It's exactly why I joined here rather than try the various YouTube videos. I need the structure.
