Anyone have any exercises or drills they can share for building accuracy when skipping between strings i.e: from low E to D or G? So far I've just been skipping around strings for minor and major pentatonic and there hasn't been much improvement.
best string skipping exerises
Hi,
not sure if this counts, but I like this little lick.
The instructor uses hybrid picking but I play it all with my plectrum. When I was learning this I just kept cycling round, descending then ascending for maybe 10 - 15 times, and tried to play it a little faster the way Eric Johnson does on his Cliffs of Dover song. There are other string skipping examples in the EJ style lesson. The first and second kicks at least.
There will unquestionably be a proper string skipping tutorial somewhere in the site of this isn't any use to you.
That looks like a good one Pound.
randmazn: I think is a metal technique? Have you seen any of the stuff on YT by Michael Angelo Batio on string skipping? His techinques are way above my pay grade but he is one heck of a player and seems like a very nice sort. Here is one example I just pulled of YT but he has all kinds of instructional vids available. If metal and speed are your thing he may be worth checking out.
