Just getting started with guitar (again)! playing a clean G chord always slows me down. I playing it with midlle finger on 3rd fret of E sting, index fingeer on 2nd fret of A string, and ring finger on 3rdf fret of highe E string. So far to keep it clean, I have to slightly push the E and A stings away from each other because my middle finger will touch the A sting if I don't. Is this OK??

That is absolutely ok, but try playing with Middle finger on low E 3rd fret, Index on A 2nd fret, Ring on 3rd fret B string, and Pinky on high E 3rd string. I like that sound better.
