Ok i i have never until 5days ago picked up a guitar in my life, i am a complete newbie. I struggle with the simplest of things. I am on fundementals 1 as you would expect. But steuggle with being able to do the spider legs that lisa explains right at thee beginning, my fingers seem to go all in the same direction meaning i cannot comfortably get my index, middle and ring finger onto frets 1,2 & 3 at the same time. My fingers are sore but still pushing, not to much but practicing daily. I have provided a picture of my hands/fingers to show what i mean by they point in the same direction.. is this normal? And should i stick to this lesson (look mom, two hands) until i am doing spider legs comfortably?

Thank you david

Hi there,

It's really normal to struggle with spider legs at first. This is because your fingers have not properly stretched yet to play a guitar. That's why you're doing spider leg exercises! Doing this type of exercise will get your fingers to stretch little by little so that you are more comfortable with each finger being on a single fret. It takes time and a lot of practice.

Practice these moves slowly and don't rush it or strain yourself. All in time!
