Hi there my name is luke and im just starting my guitar learning journey. Ive had a guitar for years and would pick it up every now and then and watch some youtube videos on how to learn guitar but never really had much success. its very easy to start watching random videos on youtube!

Ive just started the guitar fundamentals 1 and its going well so far, but I was wondering how good should I be getting at playing these simple chords. I mean I can play allong with the first few songs quite happyly but its not perfect, dull notes every now and then or my timing goes out slightly to the video.

At what stage do I say ok its time for me to advance forward to the next lesson?

Also on average how long does it take or should it take to complete the fundamentals 1?

Hi Luke

we are all different. Some learn quicker than others. When I learn something new, I stick with it until I have at least 2 fundamentals: can I make the chord and can I transition between chords at tempo. The chord doesnt have to be perfect. But tempo does. The chord will clean up with continued future practice and playing.

I keep a journal and I am quite organized as to what I am going to practice for the day. And in every practice session there is a "go back". Meaning I a go back to something and practice it for 5 or so minutes. It comes together, but I can't give you a time line. Try and enjoy the journey and feel good about your accomplishments.

Good luck.

This year the diet is definitely gonna stick!

im Right there with you, started recently and am slowly can hear the difference. I also keep a journal and daily go back and do each song and don’t move on to the next one until I have the previous and have done it well. I do spider legs at the beginning , practice each simple chord and transitions. Then songs, slowly but I do see a difference
