Grateful for some assistance

I am a guitar rookie (as in GTrick's lesson 3) and recently bought the ST-8.

When I use the tuner and attempt the tune the strings the tuner gives me sting letters that don't correspond to EADGBE. For example, low E (6th string) is shown as D according to the tuner - that said, Im able to tune it to the green bar (or close to). The tuner is clipped to the headstock

Help please / what am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Neil

The whole guitar might be out of tune. Have you put on new strings? If you did they need to be stretched out. If not try to keep turning the tuning pegs until it shows the correct tuning.

Make sure the tuner is set to "G" for guitar. I had this issue and the tuner was on B or something else other than "G" for tuning the guitar. Took me a while to figure it out. Good luck.

What either of the two above posts said could be the problem.

Maybe your guitar is out of tune enough that the sixth string is closer to D than E so that is what is being displayed. Did you just put new strings on? Even if you didn't, your 6th string could still be closer to D than E. So go to the tuner app here on GT and get your strings as close as possible audibly. Or use Guitar Tuna or some other app. Get your strings close and then see if it displaying the correct street for the one you are tuning.

And, yes, make sure the Snark is in the right mode for guitar.

ALL - thanks for your suggestions. Yes I replaced the strings

Will have a closer look at the tuner and make sure its set for guitar (didnt realize the tuner had different (instrument) settings - theres no mention of that in the instructions).

Also use the Guitar Tricks reference tuner to get yourself close to being in the correct key by ear. Assuming the Snark was on the correct setting, then you'll be close enough to use the Snark to fine tune.

I use this reference tuner when I change strings to get me 'in the neighborhood'. Even though I can pretty much get there by ear, why do it the hard way? Also, getting close to the correct tuning by ear is a very handy skill for a guitar player.
