Just picked up the guitar in these past couple of days, and I'm slowly but surely getting to grips with the tips on the site, but my fingers are killing me! Will this be something I'll get used to? Because it is slowing me down
Beginner
Definitely you will build up callouses and won't have to deal with that pain. It just takes a while. Good luck to you in your learning.

Hi Murphy, welcome! It will get better but it will be somewhat painful at first. You want to be careful not to overdo things at first. I would suggest no more than 15 to 30 minutes a day with your fingers on strings at first, and then you can add to it gradually as you go. The key is consistency, and if you do too much too soon you will have to put the guitar down and let yourself recover. When that happens to beginners (and I am very much a beginner, too), all too often they don't pick the guitar up again.
It takes as long as it takes unless you quit - then it takes forever and you will never get there.
Hi Murph,
Welcome and what they said.
If you want a visual I made this some time back for us newbies.
This year the diet is definitely gonna stick!
