Hi. I've been a member for a couple of months now, and started playing without lessons a couple of months before that.

I've achieved a target I set for myself to hit in 2020 - I played in public for the first time this week! It was just a small open mic/jam night at a local pub. I don't really sing (and certainly can't sing while concentrating on playing guitar yet) so I got involved with some other musicians, playing some blues.

The host looked after me well, and I had a really nice time.

This was also the first time I had played guitar with another person (unless you count the playalong tracks on these tutorials)

Thanks especially to Anders for the beginner blues course.

Thanks guys. I made it to another session last week, but now they're cancelled for obvious reasons.

On the bright side, plenty of practice time before my next one!

I don't suppose there's any virtual jam software/website? I assume that internet latency would make playing with others impossible.

First of all, that's awesome. Playing in front of others tests you. It's easy practice on your own and not worry about mistakes. That's why you're practicing. In front of others? That tests you. Though, never be afraid to make a mistake playing publicly and never react to it! Good on you for setting a goal, holding yourself to it and actually doing it. Keep it up!

As for jamming; have you used Guitar Tricks Jam Station? I don't use it often but I have popped in there when I'm feeling a need to just mess about. Lots of genres. You do have to pick your way through because there are different jams that are meant to help you in different ways.

Keep going!

Congratulations! I love when people post things like this (I try to as well!)

Playing live is on my list of goals, too -- when there's somewhere to play out at again...

Way to be courageous, playing with others will definitely take you to a different level.

If you like it... keep playing.

It is not a competition. There will always be better guitar players than you and you will always be better than others.  Work and practice to improve, but always have fun.

Good luck and have fun.

Agreed. Don’t ever give up. I learned to play in the mid 60s and put the guitar down until late late 90s. Haven’t even slowed down now, but wished someone would’ve encouraged me and I would’ve kept up
