best way to learn scales period?
what is the best way to learn scales? I a competent player who uptil now have practiced them. What works for you guys cuz i know memorization just sucks!

Ok dude,
Major scales, there are only 7 patterns to learn
take 2 keys
say G and C or A and E
take g for instance
Start on the g note 3 notes per string do all six stings
that will be IONIAN pattern 1
slip down 2 frets same again
thats DORIAN pattern 2
slip down another 2 frets
same 3 notes a string but cover all 6 strings
thats Pygrian pattern 3
do that for all 7 patterns
Now once you ahve learnt that say in G ( i,e, starting on the 3rd fret)
LEARN IT over and over and over again same 7 patterns in the g position
then all you do is slide this mutha say up to 5th fret to beging with do same patterns and slipping up 2 frets for each pattern and you are now playing A major scale
all the while covering the entire fretboard,
remebr everything repats itself after the 12th fret.
There are you major scale plus Modes
then Learn you minor scales
then do the same for pentatonic, everything slides
