Hi Everyone,

My name is Jim. I'm 65 and retired. I joined guitar tricks just about a month ago and am enjoying working through some lessons. I have played guitar on and off since I was a teenager...never really getting over the hump with improvisation and soloing. I can strum chords, play some easy songs, know some scales and can play a simple melody behind the chords in a song. My goals are to learn my fretboard better, then master the major and minor pentatonic scales and root notes so that I might devlop some soloing skills. I consider myself a student and really enjoy the challenge of both the music theory and practical application of theory on the guitar. My favorite guitar players are BB King and Eric Clapton. My big challenge today is trying to figure out how to rotate my profile picture so that I am not looking sideways :-) I welcome any comments or advice. Thank You! Jim

Hi Jim, nice to have you with us.

I wish you well in achieving your goals.

Sorry ,I can't help with the profile picture. I'll just turn my head to one side.

Regards

Joe.

Hi Jim

Same age next birthday, also retired. Huge Clapton fan here. Still have to gain a fuller appreciation of BB King although I'm sufficiently sentient to be aware the man is a guitar legend.

Listening to your experience and goals, you're going to love your time here on GT. All the best with them.

[br]Cheers,

manX

I'm a new member as well to GT and I must say I'm enjoying my time here. Huge fan of Clapton and BB King. Good luck with your journey I did the same thing learning to play the guitar and I was in my teens and for whatever reason I never picked it back up. Now I'll be 40 this year in August going through some tough times my life and for some reason the other I picked it up and I have not put it down yet. Looking forward to hearing your progression along with everybody else's.

Thank God for music!!! It waits for us to pick it up at any time of day or night or life, and promises some joy. Can’t beat that.
