I got to say I'm really excited about this.

I've tried playing before but was self taught very basic stuff. I'm nervous as well as I tend to give up easily at times. I lack a lot of confidence and feel I'll fail. But going through the first lessons I realize I can do this.

Growing up my father wouldnt let me take lessons or do much of anything on my own. But I'm finally going to do this for me. I've always wanted this and I'm going to do it. Thanks for letting me ramble.

Welcome to the gang Lucas.

The lessons on Guitar tricks are very good at building your self confidence. They ease you into it at a nice steady pace.

Just take it one step at a time with plenty of practice and you will be OK.

Plus, of course, you have got the backing of the good people on here should you need advice or just want to chat.

It helps you build self confidence and tackle your fear of failure when you know that there are like minded people out there ready to give you a boost.

I wish you every success in an exciting adventure and, YES, you CAN do this.

Many kind regards

Joe

Lucas, I am with you. Got my guitar over a year ago went to a couple local lessons and also tried one of the other guys online. I really want to learn just to play a few songs on the pooldeck at night but always get distracted. I am hoping that this time is different.

Good luck!!

Welcome to class, everybody!!!

The key is to just let yourself go at whatever pace works for you - even if it feels very slow to you.

It's difficult for EVERYONE at first, but that's not due to some personal flaw - it is due to the fact that you are training your fingers and hands and brain to do lots of brand new things, all at once!

There is no hurry. Nobody is judging you. Everybody learns differently, and it's all fine.

A little introspective question: in your younger years, did anyone ever discourage you from making music? Or, more generally, did anyone make you feel you 'can't do anything right'?

A lot of times, frustration and self-judgement while learning to play can be traced back to an earlier experience that you took to mean you might not have what it takes to learn to play the guitar.

But you DO have what it takes!

Treat your learning process with compassion - like you are watching a baby learning to walk.

And have fun! -Lisa

That's actually exactly what I struggle with. My father was always over my shoulder telling me i couldn't do anything right. But I'm determined not to listen that voice in my head anymore.

Sounds like this may be beneficial on many levels Lucas. Take heart in what Joe and Lisa have offered.

Since you have been open, I will share with you that I don't care much for those who burden others with negativity and defeatism. But it sounds like you have decided to focus on the positives of what you can do and walk on the sunny side of the street!

I believe I would be accurate in saying that many of us here are rooting for you.

This year the diet is definitely gonna stick!
