Yes. IMO it can be a valuable training aid as long as you don't turn it into a drag excessively analysing and negatvely critiquing. Set objectives, but also maintain balance & perspective. IMV, learning guitar [u]needs[/u] the joy kept in the journey rather than being a Farcebook face to others or competitive race.
I record at intermittant but regular review intervals with a venerable Everio SD HDD video camera I've had for an aeon mounted on a lightweight portable collapsable Manfrotto tripod, and subsequently review. The res is lower than that of either my smartphone or SJCAMs, but it's most convenient, and both its mono audio and SD vid are adequate for my self-evaluation purposes.
