why and when is a capo used,,,by the way i plan on spend more time on my accoutic never much used before,,hard to hold down strings doin bar chords

Hi Donna! The capo is a great tool to let you play open chords in different keys. This is a great way to avoid using barre chords if the song allows it.

For example, if you were to put the capo on the 3rd fret - it would allow you to play in the key of F major using open chords : An open D shape for F (the I chord), an open G shape for Bb (the IV chord), and an open A shape for C (the V chord).
