Hi my name is Chris and I am a beginner. I picked up the guitar in my teens and learned a few riffs and that was about it. I didn't have the patience or discipline to learn back then. I have always wanted to learn how to play and always made up excuses as to why I couldn't. This changes today. I have bought an acoustic and an electric guitar and have made a comitment to myself to give it the best I can for the next year and see how far I can progress.

I am really looking forward to learning as much as I can. At the ripe old age of 49 I am sure this will not be easy, but, I am commited to learning it this time round. If I can do it, I think that it will prove this system works and that anyone can do it! I will check back in 1 year from today and let you all know how I faired.

Cheers.

HI Chris.

Well me too. I'm 53 and just signed up. I did a similar thing. I've always had a guitar around and could play the odd riff but that was it. It was more ornamental than anything else.

So I've decided to give it a real go.

As I said I'm 53 and I have short thick fingers so I'm not making it easy for myself. But I love it and I'm practicing every day. I'm actually getting better and my chords are ringing cleanly now.

I may never be SRV, but I might be able to entertain my friends at drunken barbeques!

Hi!

I'm an older beginner too, ripe old age of 41 with a young family. I play trombone but in a small terraced house, its not viable (my wife says me practicing sounds like a cow in pain...charming). Anyway, thought that I'd like to be able to play songs with my kids as they get older, around the campfire etc, so here I am...

I started as an absolute beginner at 60. Take the time to take Lisa's beginner one and two lessond. Some of it may be redundant but well worth the time.

Got you all beat. I'm 59. Tried to learn on my own about ten years ago, but didn't have much time with family, work, home etc. Started with GT about 10 months ago. I try to practice during lunch at work. Progressing slowly but steady. Old Men Rule! Let's do this!

Bought as guitar a couple weeks ago for myself, at the age of 72. Never played an instrument, so here I go. Good luck to all of us old farts.

jantecki19, just a direct response to you. Good luck to you. I just turned 71 a couple months ago but I started trying to learn a few years ago. It's been slow! I don't need to tell you the memory is not as elastic as it once was and neither is the flexibility (hand and finger).

Keep us posted on your progress.

Thank you to all that replied. I am so glad to see guys, our age, or just a tad older picking up the instrument. I am actually impressed with the amount of "Older" beginners on the site. I wish you guys all the success in the world. I look forward to reading posts about your successes and how well things are coming along for you. Thank you for making me feel welcome.

Hi all,

As the creator of the Guitar Fundamentals 1 and 2 Courses, I just wanted to let you know that my specialty as an educator is ADULT BEGINNERS!

My own Dad started learning at the age of 78.

I try my best to make my lessons as grown-up friendly as possible!

Bravo to you!

-Lisa

Dear Lisa;

I am new to GT,73 years old,and a true novice.Started from scratch two weeks ago, and, thanks to your well designed step by step approach,I feel a bit of progress, particularly in the tips of the fingers of my left hand. A promise to myself says I will stick with it. Thanks again for your part in the program.
