Sometimes it's possible to lose sight of the reasons you bought a guitar in the first place. There's no doubt that many people like the idea of being able to play music is very appealing, but let's face it - Recorders just aren't what you pull out at a family BBQ, and i haven't found a portable grand piano yet.

For me, the guitar is more than just an instrument, a means to an end. My guitar is a friend that challenges you when you need challenging, a source of comfort when there are those moments in your life that create songs, and a means of truly connecting with self and others at a deep level.

Becoming reacquainted with these reasons is then driving force behind joining guitartricks.com. By getting back to the basics of a guitar, music, technique and practice allows me to reconnect with myself. My guitar is truly more than just wood and strings and things.

I love this, Chris. This is exactly the point, as far as I’m concerned. I call it the “ripple effects”. You pick up an instrument, but then so many more things are shifted by that - in the room, in the self, in the group of friends, in the world. Music is profoundly and blessedly powerful stuff.

Thanks Lisa, although I know a few chords and can muck around with a few riffs, I've decided to take my guitar playing back to some basics. I've commenced your lessons starting with lesson 1 and I'm working my way through. I'm really enjoying learning the play along songs, learning how to count bars, proper fingering and positioning (including pinky G - which was an eye opener for me). The good news is that I really enjoy this way of learning and you're great to follow along with - so thank you for taking me on this journey of reconnection and learning. I really appreciate it.

Your friend,

Chris.
