I used to play guitar in my late teens / 20s for a few years but gave up after about two years. In the last year I’ve started playing again (I’m now early 40s) and experience mild left wrist / forearm pain along the top of the arm - I play electric guitar.

Recently I’ve been using something called Powerfingers for extensor exercises and this seems to alleviate (but not completely get rid of) the mild ache that I’m experiencing as doing this strengthens the opposite muscles used when fretting notes or chords. It basically stops an imbalance developing where the flexor muscles are much much stronger than the extensors. This is when problems creep in.

I know loads of stringed instrument musicians experience left wrist pain but was curious to see if people had any other advice regarding this issue?

Thanks in advance
