Hi everyone...

I just wanted to introduce myself, as I am sure, whilst learning guitar, I will be meeding advise from members and other tutors over the coming weeks, months and years!.

Learning the guitar was something I have always wanted to do, but previously, never had the time or the spare cash. My parents couldn't afford for me to take lessons in school and so I always thought "its too late now" (as I am sure most people do) and fell into making excuses or a negative midset.

Its only been the last six months since I have been researching and decided to change my mindset....why not?...whats too old?....I can make time!....I can save the money!

Im 36 years old, I am going to make time to learn, I have saved up cash and purchased my first equipment and I have registered on GuitarTricks for 12 months.

I genuinely feel like this is something I should have done years ago.

I was brought up on Queen, Elvis, The Stones, Beatles and Cash by my parents,

During the 90's and my highschool years it was Britpop, Oasis, Blur, Stone Roses.

And so I started to save and research.

Having read articles upon articles and seen review after review, I decided to go for a Epiphone Les Paul LP100 and a cool little Marshall practice amp. Both I hope will see me in good stead for at least a few years.

So thats me, starting the first steps on what will be a life long journey.

I have started as an absolute beginner and have never played a note in my life.

What I lack in skills, however, I make up in with enthusiasm and pure desire to learn.

Hopefully, you will see me on here and be kind enough to help me (I am pretty sure I will need at some point!).

Thanks

Simon

Thanks for introducing yourself here Simon!

It sounds like you picked some good gear to get started with, and you have the right mindset, which is the most important part.

We are so excited for you! Please let us know if you ever need help, and have fun.

Hey Simon, I was a total beginner a year ago and my best advice is to start with Guitar Fundamentals 1 and also do Fundamentals 2, dont skip any lessons, and you will be playing songs from the libraby before you know it.

Hello Simon and welcome aboard!

I began this journey way back in the mid 70's and guess what....I'm STILL learning! That's because there's always something new to learn. I cannot overemphasize the other forum members here when they say do the fundamentals. We're here to answer your questions or give our humble opinion on anything and everything guitar! The only dumb question is the one you didn't ask!

Hi Simon. Welcome to the forum from me too.🙋‍♂️

Just a heads up. The "My Kit" image you uploaded to Guitar Tricks for display in your initial post isn't displaying. You might want to check it for possible syntax or format error and edit or reupload it?

Cheers 😎

Hey Simon! Just below Guitar Fundamentals is a link for Practice for Beginners (https://www.guitartricks.com/beginpractice.php). I just discovered this the other day and have found it really useful, as I'm betting you'll run into the same thing as me where you say (no way my left hand can do that!). Great exercizes in there for stretches and building up those finger muscles and agility.
