Wiring Pickups

I am currently trying to wire a single coiled pickup to my acoustic. Its all set up but theres a hum which leads me to believe that there needs to be a ground. If you have any ideas on how to reduce the hum please reply. thanx

How do you have it wired up Pat?, Are you getting any more than whats normal for a single coil?

i have the input jack wired to the pickup and the pickup wired to the volume knob. theres sound and everything seems to work, theres just a hum and its not that loud

Pat, I think you are getting all you that you can get from your set-up, the only thing left to ground would be the strings, and that would be a major project, and I don't think that would cure your hum problem anyhow, maybe some shielding would help, a humbucking p/u is probably the best solution...............
