Tell your teacher that you want to learn how to teach yourself. I know a lot of guys who make easy money just stringing kids along teaching them some licks from the tabs in the guitar mags. I'm not saying that learning songs and licks is a waste of time but you don't need them to teach you what you could get at the supermarket checkout line. Learn your theory and reading skills, etc...
