I think they both suck.

Seriously though, who cares? They're obviously both good at what they do or they wouldn't be selling records.

Malmsteen is good, but his music and sound are a little boring..

if it's about speed, Jason Becker kicks both a$$.

if it's about technics, creativity then Steve Vai kicks every body butt..

anyway, if it was about selling records, then John Lennon should outplay them all !! lol

Look, okay, I'll put an end to this, and any future thread like this.

Michael Angelo is without a doubt the guitarist with most emotion in his playing.
Fastest guitarist has to be that dude from Incubus, Mike Einziger.
Most technical player is a toughy, it's a close tie between Mike Mushok(Staind) and that dude from System Of A Down.

There, hope that clears things up for you guys.

i enjoy petrucci more then malmsteen, although i liked when yngwie played with the orchestra. that was great. but i would still prefer petrucci for specific style. i think he carries a little more diversity in his playing, and he seems to add a lot of feel to his playing.

Hmmm...maybe i'm not all that much wiser. I seem to be possibly the only senior member who still rates Yngwie.... I'll admit he followed a lot of cliches with the vocalists he had and most of his later stuff, but i think the rising force album shows that he is a good musician. As far as Petrucci goes, i only discovered Dream Theater a few months ago, but i think every one of them could quite easily be the best musician in his own field i've ever heard. And i didn't say that to start another of those arguments that all the young 'uns love to have....

they are too much of a good musicians.. its like a computer program which can do great things and such but gets boring after a while.. they are like bunch of robots who can never make any mistakes since they are programed to perection but to me, a simple human being eh.. it doesnt sound too good

I think both Petrucci and Malmsteen are excellent, and maybe equal in talent, but I just like Yngwie's music more.
Rock and roll ain't noise pollution, but it can get pretty crappy these days.

yeah i agree with you 100% Michael Romeo rocks
for some reason, though, many people i know tend to see symphony x as DT's copycats.. i never realy understood why because symphony x are less progresive and much more metal..

symphony x closer to neo classical stuff
Dream Theater are progressive in the style of the 70's progressive bands.. they are closer to progresive rock than to metal
