I use alot of the rock licks bits and peices plus alot
of blues stuff in all my country
Fortunately, playing in the country venue has allowed me to be able to experiment and develop a unique style. I've also played in rock cover bands and the expectation was always lick for lick exactly from the recording. In country bands the encouragement was always improvise and add our own input. I've never been very good at lifting licks from the album so I always did incorporate licks with my own interpretation. Although, no matter how progressive I play(ie:incorporating Van-Halen style licks in to country songs) I'll probably never get away from the label of country guitarist as for the last 15 years I've played almost exclusively in country bands.
