I have a fender strat. I'd like to replace the bridge pickup with something that will get rid of the single coil hum and maybe fatten the tone a little. I don't want to sacrifice the strat sound too much. Its been years since I've used anything but stock pickups. Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm more in to the steve wariner sound with the style of Albert Lee, Jerry donahue. I know the last two play telecasters and ocassionally so do I. but I'm more into improving my strat.

With installing new pickups, you never know what you'll end up with. Unless your shop lets you try out different models, but I've never encountered that service anywhere myself.

Since I'm not familiar with the style you play and the kind of sound you're looking for, I can only suggest you to check out the websites of the two "bigshots".(when it comes to pickups)
http://www.seymourduncan.com
http://www.dimarzio.com

Also, this website http://www.harmony-central.com/Guitar/Data2/ has reviews(user reviews, not "I got paid to praise this product"-reviews) on a lot of pickups models.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all your help. Its been many years since I've used custom pickups. I've used seymour duncan hot stack which at the time I liked but it drastically changed the fender sound which I don't want to do now. I also used EMGs which I really hated.

i agree, it sounds like you want the 'noiseless' pickup that fender provides. they do pretty much what they say! and i think thier standard on the american fenders....maybe...i cant remember

Fender makes a Vintage Noiseless pickup that does exactly what you're talking about. It's Fender, so you'll keep that sweet fender tone. Technically it's a humbucker...anytime you get rid of that hum...you're bucking the hum... This is done by making the single coil a double coil. The cool thing about the Fender noiseless pickups is that though it technically is a humbucker (double coil) It has the sound of a silent single coil and the tone of standard Fender pickups. check them out.
