It depends on what you want to do. Im using a Pod pro into a desk and it is very cool however Im also using a Digitech GNX2 into a desk which is also very cool. The Pod sounds more organic but both are fantastic.
My instructors page and www.studiotrax.net for all things recording.

I have the AX2 combo and it's great, maybe it's not "as" warm as tubes, but, all the effects and tweakability are a major plus for creativity... Also, the POD's a great tool as well...

As soon as I save up the cash I'm going with the Vetta HD and Full stack... I played around on a Vetta combo and I fell in love with the near limitless possibilities it has...and the displays and back lit buttons look Bad ***...

What about the ability to update??? I heard from a friend of mine that the POD is hardware based where other types of gear (such as the Johnson J-Station) are software based and can be updated through the internet... Is this a downfall, or will I even need to worry about that?

Updating the POD is done by replacing the EPROM chip if I'm not mistaking.

Patches(pre-sets) are a completely different thing, and yeah, can be downloaded into the POD via MIDI.
