Hi, I'm Kelly...

I've always wanted to play the guitar. My favorite genre is Blues. I am retired now, and bought my first electric guitar today, actually.

I am a court reporter, and I am hoping that my expereince as a court reporter (using left and right hand in a coordinated way) translates to playing the guitar. LOL.

I don't know that it will, as I am still in the "Basic" of "Beginning" guitar and already confused, but willing to try.

Here's to new experiences :)

Hi Kelly!

The digital dexterity, flexibility and strength should. At least you'll know if you suffer from arthritis already.

[br]Electrics are a great choice to learn on. Usually lighter gauge strings - 9's or 10s, lower actions, and frequently narrower nuts and slimmer neck profiles. Which guitar did you buy?

OMG, you are so sweet to respond. I'm scared to tell you what I bought becuase I know nothing about guitars. I'm only interested in playing Blues, so I bought a used Daytona Hamer....yikes, I hope I did okay.

I really like the "feel" of it. It really seems to be what I wanted out of a "Blues" guitar.

Just give me your honest opinion...but I feel confident at least learning the basics on this one :)

Thanks ManXcat for your input :)

All that's important is that you like it and that it's suited to what you want from it. I'm unfamiliar with the brand or model without Google-ing it.

Done. That's nice tone. A very nice pickup. It'll be perfect for learning with. A joy to play as you can see in the vid. I'm envious, in the most appreciative sense.

Quintessentially it's an SSS Stratocaster clone, a fairly highly regarded one from what I glean. Strats are a great solid body electric first or only choice. Well balanced, comfortable overall length, light in comparison with a Les Paul, and so versatile. If there was such a thing as a standard electric guitar in 2018, the venerable Strat design is probably it. I have two Yamaha Pacifica Strat style solid bodies which are slightly shorter total 'tip to tail' length with different pickup and bridge configs.

I totally get the blues love. You're in for a truly enjoyable, if challenging -that's the fun of it, journey with a superb ensemble of tutors here.

Hi Kelly,

Awesome for you, giving those talented hands a new creative outlet!

Not to worry, I am sure they will take to the guitar quite well, with some practice and patience.

Have FUN!

Best - Lisa

Thank you, ManXcat, for such a detailed description of my new guitar. I know more about it now than I did when I bought it. It made me feel much more confident that I got the right guitar for me.

And thank you for the video! I can't believe that music comes out of this guitar I am clumsily plucking at..lol! The video just makes me want to practice all day...lol.

I appreciate your response and all the information :)

Kelly

Congrats on retirement, the new sweet guitar and your new adventure into blues. I have a Fender American Strat which you have a clone of. If it's good enough for Clapton and Stevie Ray, I think you made an excellent choice. Enjoy the learning experience. AND DON'T FRUSTRATED. You will be able to play like the video sooner than you think.
