I've been playing for 9 years, and I still can't play properly, let alone, shred. But then again, I'm lazy.

ONE SECOND.... ha ha beat you all. okay just kidding.

i have only been playing for a couple years now, but when i heard of sweep picking and started trying it, i learned to do it relatively within a day or so, and by the end of that week, i was already working on the crossroads arps, serrana by jason becker, and arp sonada by the jonezter (known in here as crossing lines). of course can i play any of these flawless now? NO.

okay i am going now

I've been at it for 2 and a half years. I started working on shredding over this last summer and now I can shred and sweep, but not as fast as most people. Maybe around 10 notes per second If Im real warmed up(I calculated that mathmatically). I find I do it best after a good warmup of playing blues licks.

I can rake alright but sweep picking takes co-ordination of both hands which I haven't quite got down yet.
It's weird, I can play the arp with my left hand and I can also sweep it with my right, but when I try them together I get a mess

Been playing for 4 years as of August, spent the greater part of last year learning to sweep and shred...

I started working on some of the cool licks from jason Beckers Perpetual Burn Album such as the intro to perpetual burn and the sweeping in Altitudes...the shredding in altitudes is not insnely fast but it would give most people a run for their money...And i learned Serrena which i can practically paly at the full 140 tempo 16th ntoe triplets....which is insane....massive amounts of coordination required for that....PRactice makes better

I don't think I shred... if you can shred on acoustic I'm not away of it. Shredding really isn't a technique though *scratches head*... this is way to complicated for me. Yes.

Yea shredding isn't really a technique it's more a title for really fast gutiar playing...if you can do so on an accoustic then it's still shredding. All you have to do is be able to play fast and accurate...

Hmm... so I can shred acousticness... more like I do. I still don't like the word shred sound very eighties. Like Shredder from the teenage mutant ninja turtle... ya.

DUDE...

Shredder was bad ass, well at least in the live action version of him looked bad ass...the cartoon version was lame but hell Shredder kicked ass.

That's be funny to see someone dress up like him and start a band and as a pun be a shredder on guitar as well.
