I've had my Ibanez GRX40Z for almost a month now, and I know that the switch controls which pickups are being used (and I know which pickups they are thanks to the Ibanez website).

My question is, what are the difference between each of the pickups??

If you don't know the guitar in question, there are two straight pickups (one near the neck and one in the center of the sounding board), and two pickups that are attached and movable, pivoting between the two.

Thanks!

Sounds like you have two single-coil pickups and one humbucker. The single coils are at the neck and in the middle, and the humbucker is at the bridge.

The humbucker is, roughly speaking, two single coils wired together in such a way that any "noise" picked up by one is cancelled out by the other.

Single coils tend to be better for clean playing, and humbuckers [/i]tend[/i] to be better for playing with distortion, but that's by no means a hard-and-fast rule.

Thanks S!

That's a big help - now I can be on my way at figuring out how + when to use them :)
